Like it says on the tin, what can it be used for? I kinda just took it for granted that it would be useful, but thinking over it, I cant figure it out. The shops take real money, with only das shoppe taking ingame currency. So, apart from bribes and the such, what can it be used for? Cheers!

Buying lammies (magic items - although you have to supply your own physrep), buying publications that characters produce, buying scrolls and potions, gambling in the casino, paying people to do stuff for you... like in the real world, you can buy anything someone's willing to swap the cash for. But it's probably mostly about the lammies.

I'm not the only trader in "stuff for gold" there are others who peddle jewellry, pouches.

There was a "little shop of kender" up at the Dragons at one time.

Mostly I use mine to buy rituals, lammies (I now have a "flamng" frying pan), publications, shineys for me, paying people to do errands - that sort of thing..

I use mine to fund my "make" skills - making the Lammies for weapons, armour, potions, poisons etc., with a little set aside every now and again for a visit to the casino.

Like the real world, money becomes more powerful as you gather more and more of it.

It's absolutely pointless, in fact it'll only hold you back, I'd be happy to take it off your hands for you :P

No no its fine Theomach, though thats very noble of you. I feel it only necessary to come find you at the Gathering and rid you of any gold that might be encumbering you ^^ (I jest, I'm far to lazy to track down and rob someone : ) ))

The thing with IC funds, is that you need an awul lot of it for it to be useful...

You might be able to get a newspaper for one stell, but potions will cost more, an the really good scrolls even more than that.

I've yet to get my very own ritual, but considering what you can DO with one of those, and the fact that there are limited slots per event, i'd imagine they'd cost a bomb!

As for weapons with lammies, i've been quoted 15 gold for an enchanted sword.
Never have i had that amount to spend, but then again i've never attempted a money making scheme before now!

So if, as the Gathering is my first ever event, I find a group before hand and figure out a half dozen ways to make money, whats the max amount ya reckon is possible to make in one gathering? This is simply a curiosity and I dont expect to make much stel when I'm there, but greed is a nice inchar motive :P

That's very much a how long is a piece of string question. Ask yourself the same question of real life. It depends on whether those half dozen plans are realistic, how much time you have to devote to them, whether people take the bait and pay up and how busy you are otherwise.

Damn you and your realism! Yeh, you have a good point. I guess I'll just steal, earn, pinch and make what gold I can with the chances I get : )

15G sounds about right for an enchanted sword. Some stuff is cheap as chips the low level scrolls can be had for a few gold normally, cheap potions are under 4 or 5 gold. Weapons cost a bit more, but armour not usually quite as expensive

In terms of making money have makes skills is a good way to make money, however don't ignore the monstering money it's not a bad way to make a few gold!

It's always good to keep your ear to the ground as well. The Event Support Team sometimes put a call out for some help (OOC), but we do have a tendancy to reward with IC money. An example may be we put a call out to each faction security to see if anyone is willing to help deliver wood for burning each day, If your interested, speak to your faction security at the start of the event and get them to radio down that your willing and able. I won't necessarily pay a staggering amount, but keeps the helpers happy, really helps out the Event Support Team and it always brings a smile to our faces, as its extremely rare to get people willing to work for plastic coins ;-)

In addition to what I stated above, if anyone is willing to offer their services to help out in First Aid or Security, then we'd be very happy to hear from you.

You will need to provide some evidence / certification to ensure that you meet the necessary requirements, i.e. a copy of your First Aid certificate, SIA card, etc. But if anyone would like to offer a bit of their time, be it helping within one of the Departments or out and about whilst participating in a linear, etc, why not pop down to see one of the Event Support Team.

Money can also be made while monstering. They will offer to pay you either in gold or a portion of an osp (think you get a stamp per monstering slot and 10 stamps gives you an OSP but I might be wrong)

Money can buy you lots of things
1 - potions, poisons, weapons, armour, shields. Pretty much anything with a lammie as long as you have enough. Also if you have a craft skill it costs you gold to make items too.
2 - ritual slots. If you want to power yourself up lots and lots often a ritual is the best way to do it. If you're not part of a group/faction with a lot of ritual power and they aren't willing to help you out you can hire yourself a ritualist and a contributer and buy a slot if there's a spare one.
3 - stuff. All the way from the kind of things that Peggy sells, such as weapons, clothes, disguises (for hire), to jewellery, some sweets etc.
4 - services. IC services can range from bodyguards, assassins and brothels. (Insert plug here for the Officer's Mess :D)

See gold can be very, very useful.
